Benson - The Strand
This was a Shopfitting Design and Build project in the 80's. Benson was a chain of menswear stores in Central London and The Strand was a complete pre-shell fit-out.
The site was part of a complete conservation refurbishment of the Coutts Bank Building. Benson occupied the double-pepperpot on the corner of Duncannon Street, presenting a prestige frontage in a prime location. Because the site was part of a major conservation project, the shop design had to be restrained and in context with the whole building. The double-circle layout presented challenges and none of the frotage openings were the same.
Bronze anodised aluminium frames lined the openings and the glazing was, at the time, the largest installation of big curved glass sheets in the country.
